Class of 2001

Someone sent the class snap on the mailing list and the snap led to a chain of responses from a class that was pretty much dormant for 5 years. Nice to see that it revived the spirit, the spirit of class that made the years at SPCE a memorable experience. It makes me want to reflect on it and the best way to do it is through a class activity. Contributing my 2 bytes…hope it does not get too much.

It was a class that made its mark right at the the First Technobreak and then did something strikingly contrasting in the Final Technobreak and yet reflected the same spirit..a class that did some scattered wonders when faced with challenges in the years between.

The First Technobreak was an enthusiastic event where we had a 100 % participation in all events by ensuring an organized and coordinated entry in each event ensuring no negative points…and we did make a big difference through the essential ingredients of creativity and talent coupled with energy and enthusiasm. We achieved a lot at a first year level ending up being one of the top classes.

Through the years, we kept the spirit going, not only through the individual talents but also through the numerous support that we provided each other through the background and behind the scene activities. Kleptomania ( A special event where we had to imitate a band with props etc) anyone?? What we thought was just a formal entry, did make it to the finals and the whole props had to be redone overnight… It was primarily our presentation that created the magic. Scattered events, yes, but they did reflect our potential.

The Final Technobreak was indeed a contrast to the first one, with all the things that we were busy with, yet we knew there was something that needed to be done. We could have simply let ourselves loose to celebrate like classes do but then I guess we rose to the occasion one more time, in a different way. With some serious efforts in making a very difficult task presentable, some of us managed to contribute to the final encore as we walked the ramp for nothing but class spirit: a simple, elegant and final adios to SPCE.

The 15 volunteers on stage were a large number by itself but they really represented a much bigger team, I wud say, the class of 2001.
